What is NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an important program in Australia that supports people with permanent and serious disabilities. It gives individuals more choice and control over the services they receive, allowing them to decide how and when they get help. The NDIS is all about helping people reach their personal goals, whether it's becoming more independent, joining in community activities, going to school, or finding a job. Through the NDIS, people receive funding for services and support that meet their individual needs. The goal is to make sure everyone has the right help at the right time. The NDIS puts people in charge of their own decisions, ensuring the support they get is tailored to their specific situation. It's not just about managing a disability—it’s about helping people live the life they want.

What does the NDIS funding provide?

The NDIS provides funding in three main categories:

Core funding: This covers everyday support, such as help with low-cost equipment, household tasks, cleaning, and transportation.

Capacity building funding: This funding helps build skills and support personal development, including areas like employment, education, training, social connections, personal growth, and housing options.

Capital funding: This is for purchasing essential equipment like mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs), home or vehicle modifications, or other assistive devices.

Is the NDIS income or asset tested?

The NDIS is not means tested and does not take into account your income or assets (such as your home or investments) when determining eligibility. The NDIS was established so anyone who meets the eligibility criteria can access support to help them live their best life regardless of their income or assets.
